Sujin Lim majored in sculpture at Seoul National University in Korea. She currently studies in the “Public Art” MFA program at the Bauhaus University-Weimar. In her recent work, she mainly does site-specific installations to create surreal scenes in daily life. Through these interventions, she tries to reveal the desires of people who are suppressed in society, and further question the systems that cause this suppression.
"Monument for the Screams" (Vom Ende der Welt)
Viehauktionshalle was constructed as a cow auction in the past and has been used as a temporary collecting point for the Jews and others who were later moved to Buchenwald. I gathered the pieces of glass bottles from the ground at this site and transformed them into a chandelier. The chandelier installed in the front part of the building is a memorial for the weak and unstable existences that throughout history have been kept on the site against their will. Through the intervention, in lighting up the space where anonymous people have been drinking, I hope to console the screams, which are invisibly filling the void inside and outside of the building.
